2021.09.27 00:50 mahonrac000 No one remembers I’m bi even though I’m pretty much fully out [F21]
Does this happen to anyone else? Everyone that already knows that I’m bisexual seems to like, forget it? And they keep bringing up the fact that “oh you’re straight you wouldn’t do [insert xyz here]” like has this been anyone else’s issue? When I remind them, they’re always like “ohhh yeah I forgot” and I know they’re not trying to erase my sexuality because funny enough a lot of the time those people are bi themselves and we’re talking about bi topics and such. Does this happen to anyone else who has been out for years like me?

2021.09.27 00:50 VexedTruly Looking to replace Draytek 3910..
Per the subject, I’ve used Draytek Routers for a long time but the firmware issues with the latest 3910 and their price tag (around £800) has me looking around for alternatives. Not averse to spending that much if the solution works but Draytek have been a disappointment for a while now and have left me a bit wary.
Im familiar with PFSense so imagine I’ll feel at home with OPNSense.
Future proofing is nice (I.e SFP or 2.5gbe ports) but the main requirements are gigabit WAN throughout and multiple IPSEC site-to-site tunnels with good throughout and most importantly stability. IPSEC traffic would be intermittent burst rather than sustained across all.
I’m so tired of the Draytek tunnels being up but not passing traffic, or their HA implementation causing router reboots of packet loss etc
It seems the Protectli HW is most frequently recommended here but I’d like to get something with decent warranty/support.
Any specific model or other recommendations that would fit the bill? Any advice appreciated.

2021.09.27 00:50 Environmental-Put-87 DnD Wonderland Characters
Most of my connection to DND is in making characters for fun since finding a group is difficult with my schedule, but I have fun making PCs that I might one day actually play. With the new Witchlight book, the harengons gave me an idea for a white rabbit character inspired by Alice in Wonderland, and then I just couldn’t stop making characters in that theme. I’m sure Alice in Wonderland homebrews have already been made in excess, but nonetheless here’s my take on some characters that might be found in such a setting. It’s not really a fully fledged adventure, but moreso character options with some trappings of a homebrew world. Anyways, because I had gone through all the effort of thinking these up, I figure someone might as well get some use out of them. Hopefully someone might enjoy using them to make an adventure, or modifying any of the character’s/factions for their own homebrew world. I’m also interested in hearing other takes on these characters, as I’m sure they might differ greatly from mine.
\I recognize that a lot of the fun in DND is creating your own, original PC’s, but I couldn’t help but feel a lot of the character’s in the book would be fun to play. If you use any of this material, they could just as easily be NPC’s and could also very easily be changed to suit your player’s own interests/play styles. Take them or leave them as PC options, or use them for inspiration.*
Alice/Alex-Any Class Human: I hesitated to make Alice a player character option because I wanted to avoid creating main character syndrome in one of the PCs. But instead of thinking of this PC option as a "main character," think of them instead as a character with no previous allegiances or connections to any of the factions, unlike the other PC options which may already have those connections. Much like the Alice in the book, this PC is an outsider (but not like from another plane, more like from a small village, and feels a call to adventure, but if you like the other plane route, go for it).
White Rabbit-Clockwork Soul Sorcerer Harengon: A Courier of the White Queen sent out to forward her interest’s in the adventuring world. Not antagonistic to the Hatter’s forces, but suspicious (A lot of the information on factions can be found in the NPC section). I went with Clockwork Soul because the imagery was perfect, but they could easily be an Oath of the Crown Paladin, or anything else you might want.
March Hare-Harengon Eldritch Knight Fighter: A member of the Hatter Faction, loyal to the Hatter, and fiercely brave in battle. I could also see this character easily being a barbarian or somwthing else, but again, feel free to make the character your own.
Dormouse-Arcane Trickster Rogue: Loyal to the Hatter, I went with a rogue because it sounded like a fun/necessary option. I didn’t specify a race because as far as I know there’s no official mouse race, so this character could be a homebrew race, or just as easily a gnome or halfling with the nickname mouse (for being quiet and small and rogue-like).
Tweedle Dee-Dwarf Wild Magic Barabrian: I could see Tweedle Dee and Dum being loyal to the Hatter, the Duchess, the White Queen, or no one at all. I think if you had two players that work well with eachother, it could be fun for them to play the brothers, or one could easily be a missing npc for easy character motivation. I went with dwarves because of their rotundness, and I think it would be funny if they were dwaves with no beards for no explainable reason. I chose barbarian because of their quickness to anger in the original stories, and wild magic because it sounded fun. Feel free to go in a different direction though.
Tweedle Dum-Dwarf Wild Magic Barbarian: same as Tweedle-Dee, but with a different name. If you'd like them to be different classes however, I see no problem with that.
Mock Turtle-Transmutation Wizard Tortle: I admit this character as a PC might be a bit of a strange choice, but Tortle’s exist, and I wanted to have a character that could be loyal to the Duchess. I also feel you could nix that, and have the character loyal to no one, or the Hatter, or one of the queens. Also, this character could just as easily be an NPC. I chose Wizard because most of his dialogue in the book revolves around school and I wanted a Wizard option, but I can see an argument for any class you want. I chose transmutation because the mock turtle is a weird amalgamation of different creatures, and I wanted transformation to be a part of the character’s MO. I understand the school of Transmutation isn’t the most popular, and I also recognize there are other subclasses such as the Moon Druid and Beast Barbarian that might emphasize the mock turtle’s hybrid nature better. Feel free to change this one up as much as you want.
Cheshire Cat-Shadow Sorcerer Tabaxi: I can see the Cheshire Cat as either an NPC or PC, because I almost guarantee there would be a player who would want to play them, but I can see a DM really wanting to roleplay the character as an NPC as well. As far as loyalty, I would argue the character would be loyal to the Hatter (something like a second in command if an NPC), but I could equally see the character having loyalty to no one but themself. I chose Shadow Sorcerer for the imagery, but I think any subclass that plays on creative movement, or immateriality would work just fine. Feel free to use Way of Shadow Monk, Echo Knight, fey Wanderer Ranger, or any other subclass you feel fits. I went with Tabaxi because cat, but feel free to change it up, as an NPC you could even make it a powerful creature of some kind.
\I use good, neutral, and evil loosely here. Alignments are often debated, and I feel even some of the people that argue for them see them as more guidelines than strict rules, the classification is more to highlight potential allies and antagonists.*
White Queen-High Elf/Human Divine Soul Sorcerer: The Monarch and leader of the “Lawful Good” faction. Sister or Cousin to the Red Queen, and rightful heir to the kingdom of Wunderland (I am 100% not committed to this name, and you don’t have to be either, it’s very on the nose, but I didn’t want to put too much effort in coming up with an alternative). I see this character as a fair and good monarch, but a monarch just the same, with all the moral complexities of any monarch system in any real or fantasy setting.
White King-High Elf/Human Battlemaster Fighter: Husband to the White Queen, and lord commander of the Wunderland Army. Primarily serves as a strategist, but it would be a mistake to underestimate how capable he can be on the battlefield.
Mad Hatter-Wild Magic SorcereArcane Trickster Rogue: Leader of the “chaotic good” faction. I favor the wild magic Sorcerer approach, but I know that’s a controversial class. I also thought Rogue could be a fun option, but really there’s no wrong answer. Do what you want with him, and have fun. Also, any race would work, so go nuts. Before the Red Queen’s rise to power, he led a resistance against the power of the monarchy, but recognizes the threat that is the Red Queen and is now an uneasy Ally of the White Queen. A fair and good leader, but don’t ignore the moral complexities of certain freedom fighters or anarchists (not necessarily an anarchist, but that is an option).
Cheshire Cat: See PC option, and change accordingly to suit an NPC
Duchess: I included the Duchess to have a more dynamic/organic faction. The Duchess is the Lady of a small, but powerful fiefdom. Her loyalty is with the people of her region. Depending on the actions of the PCs she could be swayed toward the White Queen, the Hatter, a powerful faction of her own, or even the Red Queen if she feels it’s the best choice for her people (out of fear of harm or a desire for power). I didn’t have an idea for her class, so have fun doing whatever you wanted with the character.
Cook-Artillerist Artificer: Loyal servant to the duchess and a powerful potential ally/enemy of the PCs. I went with artillerist because pepper gun, but fighter, Crown Paladin, or several others could be equally good or better options for your adventure.
Mock Turtle: See PC option, and change accordingly to suit an NPC
Caterpillar-Divination Wizard: No idea what this character would be. Could even be a dragon (I’m thinking Wyrm, because Caterpillar->Worm->Wyrm), but any powerful creature could work. Not loyal to anyone, is more of an information broker. Could be an ally or enemy of the PCs depending on their actions. The Caterpillars motivations are mysterious/I couldn’t think of anything good. Have fun making your own if you feel they would even comprehensible to a mortal mind.
Red Queen-High Elf/Human SorcerePact of the Fiend Warlock: Cousin or sister to the White Queen that wanted the power of the Monarchy for herself. Made a pact with a demon, or is a powerful Sorcerer in her own right, she gained a following and declared herself the rightful monarch of Wunderland. Perhaps she is truly evil, wanting nothing but power, or subject to/driven mad by the whims of the fiend that controls her, or perhaps she truly is the rightful heir to the throne, but was unfairly robbed of her title. No matter her motivations, her methods are cruel and she is a threat to the peace of the kingdom.
Red King-High Elf/Human Fighter: Husband to the Red Queen, and commander of her armys. I chose a fighter, but he could easily be a barbarian, a dark mage of some kind, or a Paladin serving some great evil. Extremely capable in a fight, and loyal to the queen; Either out of devotion, fear, or some other magical means of control.
Executioner-Oathbreaker Paladin: Loyal follower of the Queen, sent out to do her dark bidding when no one else can. I like the idea of an oathbreaker paladin, but there are many other options as well.
Carpenter-Human: An early villain for the PCs. Partner to the Walrus. (I see the Carpenter being gaunt and wiry, while the Walrus is portly). Not necessarily loyal to the Red Queen, but more likely a mercenary or bandit with a small following, causing problems in a war-torn Wunderland. Perhaps defeating them is how the PCs gain audience with the White Queen and/or Hatter and begin the greater part of their adventure, or is the first mission they are given by those characters. Swashbuckler Rogue, fighter, or an evil mage of some kind are all good options. Possibly a goblin, gnome, or human, but really anything would work. (Maybe if one is left alive/escapes, a mid adventure revenge plot could be a fun diversion/complicating factor)
Walrus-Human: An early villian for the PCs. Partner to the Carpenter. (I see the Walrus being Portly, while the Carpenter is gaunt and wiry). Barbarian, fighter, or an evil mage of some kind are all good options. Possibly a goblin, dwarf, or human, but really anything would work. (Maybe if one is left alive/escapes, a mid adventure revenge plot could be a fun diversion/complicating factor)
BBEG behind the BBE Queen: If you create an adventure with these characters, you could easily use the queen as your BBEG, but if you would like a longer campaign, or a larger threat than a high level caster, you could have a demon, fey, or dragon behind the scenes directly in charge of the Red Queen, or pulling the strings behind all the factions. Perhaps the Red Queen herself becomes more than just a high level caster, instead aspiring to lichdom. I don’t have any solid ideas for what kind of character this might manifest itself as, so feel free to pick or create your own if you’d like a campaign of a grander scale.
Jabberwocky: An actual jabberwocky from the Witchlight book, or a chromatic dragon (I think either red or white depending on how difficult you’d like the encounter to be) loyal to the Red Queen. Either a gift from the Red Queen’s patron, or a creature bent to her will through magical means (I don’t see a dragon willingly serving another person, evil or not). It could also potentially be the patron of the Red Queen if you wanted to go that route.
Bandersnatch: I’m not sure what creature this would be, as I don’t think there’s an official 5e bandersnatch, so have fun deciding what it would be, or find one from a homebrew. Possibly a creature loyal to the Red Queen or the Duchess, but I think it would be just as fun as a wild beast the players encounter on a side quest of some kind. (Guarding the vorpal blade/other magical item, or blocking their path to an important location, or a kill quest given by a village under its attack, or a random encounter wherever you’d like).
Gryphon, Lion, Unicorn: These are other creatures present in the Wonderland books, and potential encounters for the players. The Gryphon is associated with the red queen and the mock turtle in the book. So a potential creature of the Duchess or Red Queen, or just wild and somewhat common in the adventuring world. The Lion and the Unicorn are interesting options. In the book they are fighting over the White King's Crown, and could similarly be creatures guarding the White Crown, a magical object needed to defeat the Red Queen. In the book, they are both associated with the White King, but could just as easily be counterparts on the red and white sides of the conflict (although be careful with that, as the characters traditionally represent an English/Scottish rivalry, and deciding to make one evil could be problematic). They could also just be wild beasts present in the world for the players to encounter. While you could use the official dnd unicorn statblock, homebrewing a legendary unicorn of some kind could be fun to increase the challenge, and the lion would likely have to be changed or borrow the statblock of another creature to be on equal footing with the unicorn. Have fun, as these are really just options for encounters, and there is no right direction for these creatures.
