2021.10.27 13:33 Mofumoku Does suede/nubuck scuff?

I know that this might sound like a stupid question, but, just to give a quick background story, I just recently got into the world of sneakers, and I recently found out that a scratch on a leather sneaker (e.g. Jordan Fire Red 5s) are referred to as “scuffs”. With that said, I’m not too knowledgeable on the kinda of scuffs or how difficult it is to get scuffs on sneakers that use different materials.
One of my friends recently let me look at his collection, and something that really caught my eyes was the DMP Jordan 6, which, I believe, has a nubuck upper. If I were to get one myself, how cautious should I be when it comes to getting scuffs on something like the DMP Jordan 6 (or any other sneaker similar to it, like the Raging Bull 5s or Toro Bravo 4s), vs., say, something a bit less… hairy/course, like the smooth leather upper on the Fire Red 5s or Bugs Bunny 8s, or even something like the patent leather on the 11s?

2021.10.27 13:33 Warriornotavictim Wish I had a dad

Hey ya'll,
I just joined and I guess I'm here because I have a father shaped hole in my heart. I just wish I had a dad who gave a shit about me and didn't abuse me. You know? I always feel an ache in my heart whenever I hear about protective dads or see them in movies beating up the people who harrassed or hurt their daughter or even just being intimidating to their daughter's date. My father didn't care when I got sexually harrassed. He made a joke out of it actually. Both him and my mom are narcissists so I guess that behavior checks out. I guess I wish I had a dad who didn't try to control me, belittle me, humiliate me and who I anticipated coming home from work instead of dreading it. I wish I had someone to help me pick my first truck, take me fishing, help me learn sports, tell me I'm beautiful without my skin crawling. Anyways, thanks for listening. Thanks for being there when my dad couldn't.
Sincerely, Warriornotavictim

2021.10.27 13:33 mrflubberblubber Advice for 13 week old puppy

Hi everyone,
Long time lurker here and I’ve learned so many good advice on here and I knew raising a puppy would be difficult but he is really testing my patience. Some context: I got him (corgi) at 12 weeks old and he just turned 13 weeks. I’ve taken two weeks off work to adjust his lifestyle to my schedule but it’s not going that well. He also had to stay at the vets for a day because he wasn’t feeling good (he’s way better now!)
I’m hoping to get some advice from other views to see if I’m handling this right and see if anyone has any tips for some concerns I have.
Potty training - I take him out before/after naps, 1 hr after meals, before/after play. I also take him out around 230/530 am for potty breaks and make it as boring as possible. His bedtime is roughly 11/1130pm-530am then after the potty break, I put him back for another 30 mins-hr until I get up. He just got some more freedom in the living room and he has signaled twice to go to the washroom by sitting by the back door. I just don’t know how to get him to signal in his pen/crate set up since he can’t get to the door and he isn’t trusted in the living room himself. Also, he does start the scratch the bottom of the crate during the middle of the night so that’s when I take him out to potty (not sure if he has to go or he doesn't like being in the crate). He has slept until 530 once before. I tried to use potty pads but he just tears them up. He has only had a handful of accidents in the pen but none outside of it and once in the crate (due to him not feeling well). He also has a bad habit of biting/eating grass when on potty breaks or tries to zoom around even though I have him on a leash to prevent him eating things I don't want. I try not to interact with his zoomies as I want to distinguish potty time vs play time.
Crate/pen set up -He currently has a pen attached to his crate and the crate is divided for just enough space for him. He did voluntarily go into the crate himself once but other than that, I have to place him in the crate myself and close the door then cover it with a blanket so he naps. He only whines a bit then settles not long after and sleeps comfortably. At times, I will let him sleep in the pen instead of the crate if I am near by. This is because he knows how to jump the side of the crate and he managed to pull the towel off of the crate. He sleeps with nothing but some chew toys in the crate. Not even a collar. I’ve fed meals in there, gave him lick mats and kongs for positive association but he never chooses to go in and sleep himself so I have to physically put him in and close the door. He might prefer to sleep on the pen since it’s lined with a waterproof fleece (so it isn’t hardwood). I don't even keep a bed inside the pen as he starts to chew this and I don't want him to ingest anything. Should I be forcing him in the crate? Is it negative reinforcement? He seems to settle in quite fast once he’s in there but he does occasionally scratch the crate from time to time during his nap time. I did buy a pet camera so that I can set it up so that I don't have to sleep on the couch and also so I can keep an eye on him while I work in another room. Maybe this will allow him to sleep in the pen instead of the crate?
Biting -he was biting as a normal puppy is and I’ve tried to redirect him, yelp, stand still but these only sometime works. He seems to be getting more nippy than when he initially got home, probably because he is now comfortable here. He also has a really bad habit of biting his houseline as we have him on one when he is in the living room. I do take it out of his mouth and redirect him by asking him to sit or give him a toy instead. I did try to settle him by grabbing his collar (saw this on McCann dogs) but he started to try to bite/get riled up even more, I haven't tried to put him in my arms to the side like they're suggestion. I do collar grab training with him by giving him treats when I grab his collar to give him positive association. I know he is teething so I don’t blame him but it’s getting very intense now. I can only redirect him with so much toys or manage him with the line so much. He also nips since he is a herding dog but that is not as intense as his puppy biting. I do try to train him not to bite clothings, leashes, etc. by rewarding when he doesn't do it but it only works for a short period of time.
Socialization -he hasn’t socialized with other dogs or puppies yet but I do want to bring him to obedience classes or puppy classes for that. I was told to not let him meet other dogs until 16 weeks but I know there is conflicting information about vaccination etc. I have exposed him to the vacuum and hair dyer and fire alarm but we still haven’t moved to putting a harness or nail clipping or teeth brushing, only taking a bath. He has sat with me outside the house to watch cars drive by or people walking past us. He also does well when people come over to meet him of different size and ethnicities. Is there other things I can start o expose him to other than handling and sounds? I was hoping to have him sit on a mat in a park but it hasn't arrived yet.
Barking - He has now learned his bark and has been barking for attention or at the cat for the past two days. He was quite quiet when I got him but now that he is more comfortable, he is more vocal. I do try to ignore him barking and then when he gets silent, I will say good boy/praise him. I try to pull him away from the cat as she is already divided by a baby gate but he still does it. I know this is just the beginning as this is a trait in his breed.
Schedule -I have him on a one up and two down schedule but I want him to be down for 3 if possible so I can do some work in another room. When he is up, I’ll do some quick training with him and play with him but it doesn’t seem like it’s enough. I tried to teach him fetch but he doesn’t have the attention span or has it figured out yet. Tug is also still in the works, better than fetch so it takes some time to tire him out. His current schedule is bed potty break at 230am (sometimes), 530am, up at 630am then play/potty break until 7 am. Breakfast is at 7-715am where we do some training and let him eat some of the food in his crate. Then we play for a bit and then take him out once more to potty. 8am is when I put him in his crate to nap and he will whine/scratch a bit then settle down after. Around 10am or so, he is up so I will take him out to potty. I then play with him for a bit and attempt to do some training with treats then let him settle in his pen for a bit or we will do some kind of socialization. I then give him a kong or a lick mat in his crate and let him be in there to nap after he is done the food. RECENTLY: I only started giving him lunch as per the vet (the breeder said to feed twice a day) so for the past two days, so instead of the kong, I will feed him lunch by training then letting him play by himself in his pen while I eat lunch. By this time, it is around 1230pm so I will put him in his crate to nap or let him sleep in his pen. He usually naps until 3ish pm then I take him out for potty and then leave him in his pen to play by himself, He usually naps again around 5pm then dinner at 7-730 then he is left in his pen while we eat dinner, Then he goes out to potty and comes back and let him settle in his pen/nap until 9. He goes out for potty once more then we play to tire him out for the night and he goest to potty once more before bed time (11pm or so). Mid day is very murky since I recently starting giving him lunch so I think I need to have him on a better schedule. I also have to tire him out to sleep/nap as I feel like I'm not stimulating him enough. Any suggestions on how this schedule looks? I only have an hr break for work so I need to use my time wisely.
Thanks in advance for any advice! Puppy training is not an easy thing... I'm waiting for my turn for a "it get's better post".
